SONY ALL IN ONE EXTERAL CARD READER

Memory cards are popular today, and are available in a wide range. They are used in a wide variety of devices, including mobile phone, digital cameras, gaming consoles, and more. But when you need to read those cards on your PC, you are stuck. Enter the memory card reader: they generally support a variety of memory card formats. Sony recently launched its card reader, the MRW62E, and we're now testing one of these. "Sony" evokes fond memories of reliable floppy drives for those who have been around computers for a decade, and we, naturally, were expecting this from a memory card reader to deliver let's see how it went.

The Sony MRW62E is very compact, as you can see above, and is almost the size of a small cigarette case. The unit has a strong polymer casing, which is black, and a silver-gray top surface.

The memory slots are situated at the front of the unit; there's a miniUSB socket at the back, and the bundled USB cable connects from here to the PC. It is bus-powered, so no separate power supply is required to power it up. There's an indicator LED at the front of the unit.

The MRW62E is a 19-in-1 memory card reader, meaning it can read 19 formats of memory cards. The formats supported are Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick PRO Duo, Memory Stick Mirco, CompactFlash, Microdrive, SmartMedia, xD-Picture Card, SD Memory Card, mini SD Card, MultiMediaCard, and RS-MNC.

USB 2.0 is supported, and the device is also compatible with USB 1.1. Plugging it in will make it show up in Windows Explorer as four removable drives.
